A sampled position is not aggregate search performance
An external ranking query samples results under specified conditions. GSC positions, clicks and impressions describe observed searches for the authorized site. Users, locations, devices and result types can differ, so the numbers need not match.
One report can have several update times
A page fetched a moment ago does not make its search metrics current to the same moment. Check observation dates, retrieval times, search type and completeness. Incomplete recent days should not automatically trigger a traffic-drop diagnosis.
Check before editing
- Confirm the keyword and landing page match.
- Align country, device, search type and date windows.
- Consider the baseline and both absolute and relative movement.
- Record other releases, seasonality and demand changes.
When evidence is insufficient, leaving the page alone or observing longer can be more reasonable than turning every decline into a rewrite.
